About Simone

A bit about me…

Hi! My name is Simone, a 30-something year old female living in the UK and I’ve been head-butted by a giraffe in Kenya, almost drowned trying to swim to the Devil’s Pool in Livingstone Zambia and eaten fried Tarantulas in Cambodia.

I am lucky enough to have a career working in the travel industry in the Marketing Communications team so travel is constantly on my mind, at work and at home. When I’m not at work, I’m travelling, and when I’m not working or travelling then I am running or combining the two! (And if I’m not doing any of those then I’m probably at home going through a Game of Thrones dvd box set)

Born to travel

Travel was ingrained in me from a very early age. I had spent time as a child living abroad in Germany and Hong Kong, before we settled down in West Sussex, England. We travelled every year around Asia and Europe visiting friends and family, and my first backpacking experience was to South America when I turned 21. It was then that I discovered my love for travel and have not stopped exploring since.

Over the years, I have tried to fit in as many trips as possible, whilst working Monday to Friday 9 to 5. Many people ask me how I do it, how do I find the time and how can I afford it. Simple really!

Time is of the essence…

I had a second job working part-time in a gastro pub. The pay was low but every penny helped and sometimes I’d get good tips from happy customers. I no longer do this, but for those who can, then I highly recommend it. I also work as much overtime or additional hours as possible to build up my lieu time, which means I can take more time out of work, than my allocated annual leave. I don’t have a credit card or loan (for fear that I’ll lose control and go on a massive spending spree) and try and save as much as possible to make my dream trips a reality. I’ve learnt to be disciplined and only eat out if necessary, never get takeaways, and will turn down social invitations if it is something that I did not budget for. I give myself a target and I save that amount every month. The key is to have a target and to remind yourself why you’re doing it. Stick up photos of destinations that you plan on visiting and follow bloggers, pages and groups that inspire you. If you think that it’s going to take too long to save the amount you need, then remember that the time will come to pass anyway and that Friday night out that you’ve turned down, or that dress you didn’t buy, will soon be forgotten about.

Thank you for visiting my blog and I hope you like what you see,
